I am a 39 year old wife and mother of five and I knew it was time to get my weight under control, but I knew I needed help. I went to my support group meetings and follow ups and continued to research my choice of procedure, the Gastric Bypass Roux En Y. After my procedure, the weight just started to fall off. The surgery did exactly what I had hoped. It made all the efforts I do to be healthy, actually work! There are two men in my life that came in it and changed it for the better, my husband, Jamie, and Dr. Naresh Ahuja. Words can never express what he and all the staff at New Life Weight Loss Center and Herrin Hospital have done for me.

On May 24, 2012, I had Gastric Bypass surgery. People ask me all the time why I had the surgery done, and my answer is always the same, “I did it because I wanted to live!” I had countless health problems and anxiety problems. I couldn’t walk 100 yards without getting out of breath. Now I walk up to five miles on my daily walks. My life has completely changed thanks to my surgery. Thank you, New Life Weight Loss Center!

Having a weight problem was a trait I inherited from both sides of my family. In January of 2012, I had a friend mention she was interested in having weight loss surgery. Finally in July of 2012, I decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery and I haven’t looked back. I am no longer diabetic, and I don't have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or sleep apnea. I have more energy, more confidence and, of course, I look better and am so much happier! Thank you to New Life Weight Loss Center, the whole staff at Herrin Hospital, my wonderful friends and supportive family. Every day is a new day full of choices to make, and I choose to make good choices for my future!

Before surgery I had no life. I had so many health problems and was on several different medications. I am now almost 3 years post op and I now have no health problems. With diabetes and all related troubles, I was excited and looking forward to surgery! I felt as if my life expectancy was limited – I don't feel that way anymore. It was not the easiest thing I've done, but it also was not the hardest. I would do it again in a heartbeat! My 91-year-old mom has been so happy for me. She says I look about two feet taller and younger, too! My sister commented on my bravery and told me she was proud of me at a support group – it made me cry!

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at New Life. They have been so supportive and encouraging along this journey. I have a family history of diabetes and heart disease, and I wanted to prevent that in my own life. I didn't feel good about myself and wanted my self-esteem back. Having surgery was one of the best things I have done for myself. I am much more active than before. I was able to complete my first 5K run/walk, and that was a huge achievement.
